Why is Rukmini Maitra giving heels a miss at KIFF inaugural ceremony?

The 28th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), to be held from December 15-22, will see Rukmini Maitra making her debut as the thali girl. The actress told CT, “It is indeed a huge honour to share the stage with such important dignitaries from all over the world at the inauguration of KIFF. I am proud to be chosen as the thali girl. I feel every year KIFF promises to be more exciting and appealing to cine lovers as it continues to charm the audience with world-class cinema in the City of Joy.”
Rukmini plans to wear a traditional outfit at the ceremony.“But I won’t be wearing heels as I am recovering from my knee surgery,” said the actress, who will be present at the opening press conference of KIFF on Saturday.
Rukmini underwent knee surgery a few days back after she slipped and dislocated her knee. “I was rehearsing for the finale of a dance reality show. I slipped at the wrong angle and dislocated my knee. I was rushed to the hospital and a minor surgery took place. The doctor has asked me to be on complete bed rest. But still, I was part of the finale shoot just the day after my surgery as I feel work commitment comes first. The directorial team asked me to take rest but I wanted to contribute to the final day of the shoot,” added Rukmini.
